Ding Ding Ding! We Have a Winner!

Well, I appreciate the thought everyone put into their suggestions and comments, but I have decided to do an interview with a Demon this coming Monday on this blog. So thank you Iankez for your wonderful suggestion! I must admit that part of the reason I chose a demon is because my short story containing one of these creatures will soon be out. In fact, I will try to create a link so you can read it along with the interview.

I'm sure I will get to werewolves and vampires eventually as well, so please stay tuned! And remember, if you have any burning questions you've always wanted answered, don't be shy! Let me know in a comment and if I don't know the answer, I will try my best to find out.

Along these lines, if anyone has a question they would like me to pose to my demonic guest, please post it here.

Heroic Happenings on the Rise AND a Challenge for YOU!

Remember that post I did about the Vigilante Hero? Well, it turns out there have been more incidents. The Missing Link reports that five more miraculous and unexplainable rescues and/or captures have occurred over the past two weeks. It seems likely (according to reporter Tamara Fang) that the perpetrator is actually not one Super, but many. She bases this theory on the types of abilities needed to accomplish each task.

"That is unless you believe in men from space flying around in blue and red tights," she laughs. Well, really? Is it that far fetched knowing that werewolves and shapeshifters exist? See my recent entry Matter of Belief for more on this subject.

Whoever they are, I say we should show our support of these heroes! Maybe we need a little Super-intervention now and again. What do you think?

I also want to take this opportunity to announce my upcoming second interview. My chat with Mermaid Shelly was so successful I thought I ought to do another. The only trouble I'm having is deciding which creature to interview... so I thought I'd ask my followers/readers. Who would you like to see an interview with? I've never run a contest before and I wish I could reward you with a prize like a signed book, but sigh, I do not have one to offer yet! So instead, I would happily mention the winner on this blog and ask the one burning question you want answered most! So let's give this contest a try shall we? Leave me a comment with who you want interviewed and what you want asked and I will announce the winner on my next post this Thursday...

Flying High

Well, I know that I am blogging later in the day than is normal so I apologize. But the fact is I'm sitting in an airport at the moment waiting to board my third and hopefully final plane for the day. As I sit here and look around I see several Supers mixed in with the crowd and I wonder at exactly how blind the majority of the population is.

Is it that anything that strange and different is too frightening for some people to accept? Or is it just that now that I know about these things, it is that much easier to spot? I'm not sure I'll ever have a satisfactory answer to this question.

Let me give an example: About two rows of seats over there is a gentleman that no one is paying much attention to. Yet if you look close enough you will surely see the slight point to his ears and the upturned eyes that tell me he is a fairy. Now why is a fairy flying on a plane? I have no idea. Maybe he thinks it's funny. Maybe it's just faster than the wings I am certain are hidden beneath his jacket.

The woman next to me is a little harder to identify, but I am almost certain she is a shapeshifter as her hair color has changed at least once since I've been here.

Where have you seen Supers hanging out? What gave them away?

Vigilante Hero

In today's issue of The Missing Link (the Super version of a newspaper) there is an article about a host of strange events now believed to be connnected to one mysterious Super. Unfortunately, Link hasn't yet converted to the web so I can't post a link, but I will post a section of the article since I found it so interesting.

Over the past three weeks a series of bizarre events have unfolded along the West Coast. Beginning with a fire mysteriously quenched near the Angeles National Forest.
"It could have been a big one," one local firefighter stated. "But by the time we got there it was already out. Just a circle of smoldering ash - not even big enough to put in the news I thought."
Then other incidents, where the police, firefighters or medics would appear on the scene only to find the issue had been resolved.

"Miss Kitty was stuck on the roof," says eight-year-old Xandra Martin of Santa Barbara. "She was so scared and then this big shadow passed over her and the next thing I knew she was safe on the ground in front of me."

"I thought I was seeing things. I mean it was just a glimpse and my eyes were probably playing tricks on me but I could have sworn I saw dark fur and a tail of some huge animal, only on two feet, disappear down the alley as I approached," said one policeman wishing to remain anonymous. "But when I got there, the perps were all lying unconscious on the ground, the stolen goods lined neatly against the wall. And let me tell you those guys ain't talkin'."

Who or what is performing these feats of daring bravery? Which Super got bored enough to help out a few humans? Or is it really a streak of incidents, perpetrated by several different beings? No one knows for sure. But be certain that I will continue to watch as details develop and keep you all posted...

A Matter of Belief

I'm in a metaphysically contemplative mood today...

People seem to always make the assumption that if all these Supers are out there then everything else must be too. That kind of logic makes me cringe. Just because werewolves exist doesn't mean little green men from Mars are on their way.

Don't get me wrong - I'm not saying aliens can't or don't exist. I'm just saying that I have no idea. Not a shred of evidence either way. Do the Supers believe in aliens? What about God? Religion? These are huge issues, I know!

Once again I will say that it depends on the individual Super in question. I suppose if a vampire were religious before he or she turned, then they may continue to be. Even ghosts don't know what lies beyond. Few people understand that though difficult, ghosts can pass on too.

I guess for what it's worth, no one on earth knows everything. Perhaps the only ones escaping these kind of huge metaphysical questions are ogres and zombies as neither are clever enough to go there in the first place. Don't worry they know and accept this as true so it's not like I'm insulting them. Truthfully, they may have it easier than the rest of us since they don't have to worry about such things.

Good Night, Sleep Tight, Don't Let the Zombies Bite

So where and how do most Supers sleep? It seems to most of us Normals that Supers come out at night and hide during the day. Well honestly people, they're not cockroaches!

I've already explained that vampires lose their super-human abilities in the daytime so tend to avoid it, but really there's nothing stopping them from coming out and socializing a little. Same with all the others. Now, having said this, there's also a certain something about the dark that attracts many creatures. Perhaps it is the anonymity the night provides.

Werewolves love the moon. They like to howl at it just like their more animalistic cousins. So they run at night and sleep during the day in the woods or caves. Zombies are also night creatures by tradition. They crawl out of the ground and swarm beneath the stars. Though zombies are actually quite rare having mostly been killed by other Supers afraid that they would give away the existence of Supers to humans on a widespread basis. They can't help being obvious and rather dumb considering they eat each other's brains.

Fairies, nymphs and demons do just as well during the day as at night. In fact they tend to enjoy the feel of the sun. Fairies and nymphs because of vanity and excess. Demons because the heat makes them feel at home. In fact, demons of the deviant variety tend to seek out humans to toy with during the day because it lulls them into a false sense of security. Where do these creatures sleep? Demons DON'T. Plain and simple. They have no need of it. Fairies tend to favor short naps in tree branches when convenient, though down filled beds are also quite comfortable for them. Nymphs will sleep anywhere and potentially with anyone.

Shifters? They are somewhat secretive, but seem to live most like Normals even out of the line of sight. So it would stand to reason they sleep in beds like you and I.

Origins of a Species

So where do Supers come from? I mean mention of them has been around since ancient times, but how did they originate? Well the answer is: it depends on the type of Super.

For example, goblins, faeries, trolls, ogres, gargoyles, elves, and nymphs all came from the same place, originating somewhere near what we know today as Ireland. Of course that was when all the continents were one big lump of earth so I'm not sure pinpointing a modern country really means much.
How can a squat, hairy, yellow-toothed goblin compare to the legendary beauty of a nymph you ask? It's in what's underneath. Never let the outside of a Super fool you. Many are made by design to lure their prey into a false sense of complasancy. Now, I am by no means saying they are all bad or good for that matter. They are what they are and as civilized as many have become, they still have certain drives hardwired into their systems.

Demons and sprites are trickier. Some theorize that most Supers of today are some combination of demon mating with human or faery. Truthfully though, I've never met a demon that seemed remotely interested in getting it on with a Normal (human being), so I have my doubts. No these creatures are more spirit than corporeal body and can exist not only in our own world physically but in what many of their kind fondly refer to as The Oven. Yes that's Hell. But it may not be Hell in the way we think of it through religion. It may be an alternate dimension entirely, but that's a story for a different time.

Now, vampires, werewolves, shapeshifters and merpeople are another can of worms. Sometimes it behooves us to simply accept that there are things out there that while entirely natural have found their own way on the road of evolution. What I can tell you is that these Supers have human or animal form (or the ability to take on or mimic human or animal form) so that they can blend in much like a chameleon. Whereas the other creatures in this blog overwhelmingly have to resort to magic to do the same.
